Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to introduce the scientific programme of the 2nd Pannonia Congress of Pathology.
This time Hungary, more precisely Siófok, the capital city of the Lake Balaton will host this event which was first held in Graz, Austria, two years ago. Then the presidents of four Central European pathology societies decided to get together and get to know each other in person. Now, six societies participate in the organisation of the congress, but we hope that the programme and the beautiful Hungarian spring will attract colleagues from all over Europe and maybe from overseas.
To organise such a multi-national conference gives us the joy to bring together English speaking pathologists who may have known each other only from published papers.
The main topics of the scientific programme were decided together and each participating society nominated the speakers according to the topics. Thus, we shall have the best speakers, the best specialists of the fields from each country. Not only that, but two outstanding keynote lectures are ahead of us: we have the privilege to welcome in Siófok the President, Dr. Michael Wells, and the President-Elect, Dr. Fátima Carneiro, of the European Society of Pathology. Dr. Dontscho Kerjaschki will give a special lecture about the latest results of his research regarding lymphatic spread of breast cancer. Dr. Gabrijela Kocjan from the UK, Dr. Thomas Krausz from the US, Dr. Anna Sapino from Italy and Dr. Dietmar Schmidt from Germany also kindly accepted our invitation to give lectures at the congress.
This occasion is very special from another aspect as well: the year of 2012 is the 80th anniversary of the Society of Hungarian Pathologists. On this occasion, a Historical Slide Seminar will be organised, with demonstration of original slides from 1932, the year of the foundation of our Society. Some of the presented slides were made by the great Hungarian pathologist, Ödön Krompecher himself.
The venue of the conference is a modern wellness and conference hotel by the Lake Balaton, Hotel Azúr, suitable for both science and leisure. So please, bring your families and enjoy your stay in Hungary.
Another appealing scientific event in Siófok, the Technology Transfer in Diagnostic Pathology 7th Central European Regional Meeting - Hot issues in molecular pathology, organized by the Hungarian Division of IAP, - will take place from 14-16 May, the days just before the Pannonia Congress of Pathology. So please, consider to spend that whole late spring week with us in Hungary.
See you in May 2012 in Siófok.
Yours cordially,
Janina Kulka

LOCATION OF THE CONGRESS
Azúr Hotel****
8600 Siófok, Erkel Ferenc utca 2/B
www.hotelazur.hu
The wonderful Mediterranean style Azúr Hotel is the largest conference and wellness centre on the southern shore of the Lake Balaton. The conference division is uniquely equipped with technology, while the wellness centre ensures the rejuvenation of body and soul. The brand new games centre and the culinary pleasures of the restaurant make the hotel a perfect location for those arriving with families.
Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe. Siófok has always played a leading role in the Southern Transdanubian region - first military and commercial later as a resort. Major hotels were constructed at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, and the place became a popular spa for artists, actors and the upper-middle class of Budapest.
Today Siófok is an important touristic centre, 'the capital of the Lake Balaton'. The city pampers visitors with flowers, parks, statues and Hungarian hospitality.
Driving directions to Azúr Hotel
Turn off the M7 motorway at the 105 kilometre stone and from there go toward the centre or the sailing boat harbour - going straight at each junction. After you cross the rail tracks, the gate of the hotel is 200 meters from the corner of Vitorlás and Erkel Ferenc streets.
